Volunteer
BC is an extremely active provincial association, working with energy
and passion on initiatives and programs to support its membership.
For a full description of our programs and initiatives, download

Volunteer
BC Activities
Among
others, regular Volunteer BC activities include:
- Maintains
and distributes a Directory of BC Volunteer Centres (what is a
volunteer centre?)
- Produces
a monthly newsletter
- Promotes
and provides training opportunities across the province
- Creates,
maintains and partners on a number of web-based initiatives (including
www.VolWeb.ca , www.societies.bc.ca
, and the Provincial Training
Calendar ).
- Advocates
on issues affecting the volunteer sector, such as screening programs
for volunteer centres, the role of volunteer centres in communities,
the integration of people with disabilities and those with English
as a second language, cultural diversity, and managing changes
in the delivery of non-profit services.
In addition to the above, Volunteer BC current initiatives also
include the following:
1.
Provide opportunities for voluntary sector stakeholders (volunteer
centres, voluntary organizations, government, corporate/business
community, funders) to discuss issues and encourage cooperation.
- Liability
issues such as insurance for volunteers, Directors and Officers
- Board
Governance
- Screening
2.
Facilitate information sharing for volunteer centres and managers
of volunteers.
- We
partner and liaise with the Administrators
of Volunteer Resources BC (AVRBC) in activities, events,
projects
- We
host an annual conference for volunteer centres to provide networking
opportunities, capacity-building learning opportunities, and to
learn from the collective experience of our members
3.
Develop and promote the use of volunteer centre best practices.
4.
Support the skills development of the voluntary sector.
5.
Provide materials and resources to assist volunteer centres and
their local community partners.
- Develop
a website with resources (tools, information, web links)
- Distribute
information to community partners
- Provide
consultation on the use of resources
6.
Address the issues and challenges affecting the voluntary sector.
- The
safety of vulnerable persons: developing a provincial screening
initiative
- Ensure
governance volunteers have the necessary tools: develop a provincial
governance/board development initiative
7.
Promote the value and impact of volunteering.
- Facilitate
community awareness of the contributions that volunteers make
in BC
Promote
volunteerism through media liaison, speaking engagements, and other
opportunities
