Organizational Liability

Voluntary sector organizations from across the country are united in their concerns about the high cost and difficulty in getting and keeping liability insurance.  Over 8% of voluntary sector organizations responding to a Voluntary Sector Forum insurance survey in June 2004 reported insurance premium increases over the past three years.  The report findings provide a good overview of the liability insurance issue.  Find the report, "Liability Insurance and the Voluntary Sector - Framing the Issues" online at: http://www.vsf-fsbc.ca/eng/liability/framing_issues/index.cfm.

Visit the Voluntary Sector Knowledge Network website at www.vskn.ca useful links to articles on liability issues and a booklet from the Non-profit Insurance Alliance of California. Simply go to Leadership then Board Liability Issues.

The resource library at goVolunteer has several books one liability, including a resource entitled Risk Management for Boards. Simply go to Board Liability/Accountability.
