The
Learning & Leading Exchange
Join us in a unique learning
opportunity for established and emerging leaders. Explore how you
can achieve your leadership development goals and lead change in
your community. In this peer-based learning model, you and other
community members will share leadership experiences, broaden your
individual and collective leadership capacity and then identify
tools and resources to support you in your roles as leaders.
The
L&LE gratefully acknowledges support from the
Vancouver Foundation for providing seed funding that established
this peer learning group.

About
the Learning & Leading Exchange
Vision:
a culture of shared learning around leadership in community
organizations throughout BC.
Mission:
building individual and collective leadership skills
and capacity to strengthen BC's communities.
Purpose:
the Learning & Leading Exchange (L&LE) is a catalyst
for leadership development in BC's not-for-profit sector. L&LE
will create connections and enable dialogue between new and emerging
leaders in communities across the province. L&LE will offer
access to tools and resources to enhance participants' experiences
as leaders and as learners.

Community
foundations recognize the importance of fostering diverse leadership
at the community level. As one foundation chair stated,
"We need to identify and nurture leadership that's not usually
on our radar. There is alot of untapped knowledge, skills
and interest that could be accessed to add valuable perspectives
and fresh energy to community life and decision-making.
Connecting established and emerging community leaders to learn
and lead together can be a powerful force for building community."
The
Learning Pod Model: How It Works
The Learning & Leading
Exchange aims to develop "Learning pods" in communities across the
province, each consisting of a dynamic cross-section of established
and emerging community leaders.
Membership:
Diverse membership is key to the success of
learning pods. Participants from the following are invited:
Diverse sectors
(public, private and not-for-profit)
Diverse fields
(health and social services, education, community economic
development, environment, arts and culture, youth, seniors etc)
Diverse organizational
life-stages, size and cultures
Diverse individual
experiences and ages (culture, education, perspectives
etc.)
The Lead Pod believes that
a pod limited to twelve participants ensures that the pod's size
does not interfere with its effectiveness as a learning tool.
*Learning
Activities: Pods will use a peer
learning approach focusing on sharing experiences, discovering strengths
and developing strategies to build individual and collective leadership
capacity. Exploration of the National Learning Initiative's (NLI)
Competencies for Voluntary Sector Leaders and training in Appreciative
Inquiry (AI) practice will form part of the initial orientation
sessions to facilitate its effective use.
*Learning
Pod Operations: Each learning pod will
be fully autonomous and will develop their own core values and principles
to guide member participation and operations. We suggest that each
learning pod meet face-to-face once a month. Technological capacity
will be available through the Learning and Leading Exchange to support
learning and communication between meetings, both among learners
in a single learning pod and across the learning pod network.
