Why National Volunteer Week is important:

National Volunteer Week is significant because the work of volunteers impacts virtually every aspect of society, including health, education, social services, youth, culture, sports and recreation, the arts, and the environment.

BC – Our Year to Celebrate! How you can help...

This is your opportunity to showcase volunteer activities and/or celebrations in your community.

Enjoyed a great personal volunteer experience? Would you like to thank a volunteer or are you a Manager of Volunteers who works with a wealth of volunteer VIPs? SHARE your volunteer stories. Drop us an e-mail at volbc@vcn.bc.ca. Your story will be read by others to help spread awareness of the value and impact of that volunteers make in the community.

Want to know how to get more publicity for your event? Check out our Media Relations page for useful tools like the media and publicity tool kit!

Participate in the Bring a Friend to Volunteer Campaign, organized by Volunteer Richmond: Volunteering with a friend, family member, or co-worker is a great way to spend some quality time together. Contact Volunteer Richmond for materials and ideas on bringing the campaign to your community: e-mail Lindsay Baker at: [lbaker@volunteerrichmond.ca].

Future dates for National Volunteer Week:

  •    2010 - April 18 to 24

Visit Volunteer Canada’s National Volunteer Week information pages.

For National Volunteer Week 2007, Volunteer BC also hosted a panel and discussion exploring volunteer-based employment mentorship programmes.

Volunteer Action and the Fight Against Poverty:

A Profile of Programs Turning Principles into Practice, featuring

John Soleanicov, Streetwise Partners

Chaplain Melita Champlain, Emerging Hope , and

Deborah Twocock, Dress for Success

inspired us through stories of renewed hope and fresh opportunities for low-income people, from Vancouver 's Downtown Eastside to Washington D.C. 's struggling neighbourhoods. This panel of distinguished guests shared the secrets behind their innovative programs which are changing our communities by empowering one individual at a time.

We will soon post a summary of the event for your information.
