As a provincial association, Volunteer BC has a diverse membership – from local volunteer centres to organizations involving hundreds of volunteers, from smaller rural community agencies to larger provincial societies with branch offices scattered across BC.

And through the common thread of volunteerism, Volunteer BC is one of the only provincial voices with a multi-sectoral membership, representing the common interests of organizations that traditionally fit into different sectors.

Becoming a member of Volunteer BC means you are dedicated to encouraging and strengthening the growth and development of voluntary action in British Columbia .

To become a member of Volunteer BC or to renew your membership, please download and complete the application form (in PDF format) and then mail the completed form along with the appropriate membership fee to Volunteer BC (Click here for our contact information).

Volunteer BC Membership Categories

Membership with Volunteer BC is open, upon application being accepted, to individuals, volunteer centres, non-profit organizations, community associations/businesses, and other supporters who value the purposes of the Society and meet the criteria as defined by the following categories.

A. Volunteer Centres

Annual Membership: $75

Non-profit, voluntary organizations that have adopted the Volunteer Canada “Core Competencies” defining the role of volunteer centres. Volunteer Centres are entitled to one vote at all meetings of membership, the right to nominate board members and stand for election, to receive all general privileges of membership and to access Volunteer BC services.

B. Local Voluntary/Community Organizations

Affiliate Membership: $0

Non-profit, voluntary organizations that are members of a local volunteer centre, where one exists, and by extension become members of the Society per agreement between BC volunteer centres and Volunteer BC . Affiliate Members do not have voting privileges.

C. Provincial Voluntary Organizations and VOCBC Members

Annual Membership: $75

Provincial-level, not-for-profit voluntary organizations that support the purposes of Volunteer BC, have similar values and demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism best practices. Entitled to one vote at all meetings of membership, the right to nominate board members and to stand for election, to receive all privileges of membership and to access Volunteer BC services.

D. Associate Members

Annual Membership: $75

Groups that support the purposes of Volunteer BC , have similar values and demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism best practices. Includes interest groups, businesses, associations, professional groups and not-for-profit voluntary organizations who are not affiliated through a local volunteer centre. Entitled to one vote at all meetings of membership, the right to nominate board members and stand for election, and to receive all privileges of membership.

E. Individuals

Active Membership $50

Board members, community volunteers and others who support the purposes of the Society, have shared values and demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism best practices. Entitled to one vote at all meetings of membership, the right to nominate board members and to stand for election and to receive all privileges of membership.
